Snowdrops at Kearsney Abbey

Snowdrop season

The snowdrops are out in White Cliffs Country - these tiny heralds of spring bloom in February here and you can see them in our glorious gardens right now. Snowdrops are tougher than they look and will push their heads up through blankets of snow (not that there is any sign of snow in the weather forecast). There are 19 wild species of snowdrops and, according to some sources, over 1000 named varieties!

Visit Walmer Castle and take a stroll around the gardens to spot drifts of them growing; you can also see 50 different varieties beautifully displayed in pots on a table outside the glasshouse cafe.

Kearsney Abbey (Kearsney Abbey and Russell Gardens) in Temple Ewell, Goodnestone Park Gardens and Pines Gardens in St Margaret's Bay are also special places to see these diminutive beauties. All the gardens have cafes where you can warm up with a drink and slice of cake.

If you visit any of these gardens to see the snowdrops, don't forget to tag @visitdover and use #whitecliffscountry on any photos you post on social media that you're happy to share.
