Solley’s Ice Cream make rich and creamy Ice Cream using milk and cream that has just come from just 1 mile away from their farm in Ripple and they ensure that 85% of their base ingredients are sourced locally for example. Jenkins & Sons are committed to providing fresh, local, sustainable, line-caught and day-boat fish and seafood. Homesteads beef is grass fed and out all year on the Downs.
If there is one type of food that is traditional to the area that any sweet tooth fiend should try it’s a Kentish Gypsy Tart which has a soft filling reminiscent of toasted caramel which sweetness balances beautifully with the buttery short pastry. You can find Kentish Gypsy tarts throughout the district at bakeries.
In addition, you can enjoy all sorts of locally produced food if you’re eating out. The region’s fresh fare features widely at most local pubs, inns, cafés, bistros and restaurants. And there really is an eatery for every palate and price range. If you’re dining in, there are plenty of places to shop for local produce, including farmer’s markets, traditional butchers and delicatessens. You could even pick your own produce at Felderland Farm in Sandwich.
